Workshop Nov 10, 2021: Reframing Aging on Campus
If you have not already done so, please register now to join us at the 2021 Online GSA Annual Scientific Meeting for a special pre-conference workshop titled: Applying Reframing Aging Communication Strategies in Your University Program, November 10, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET
As a multi-disciplinary and multi-generational setting, the university is a perfect place to apply reframing aging principles, or frames. These frames have been shown to enhance knowledge about aging, improve attitudes about older people, and increase support for aging policies and programs. The workshop discussions will explore the many ways that framing can be used to communicate more effectively on aging, ageism, intergenerational issues, DEI issues, and other topics.
The panelists are:
- Tracey Gendron, Virginia Commonwealth University, Confronting Ageism in Curricula
- Shannon Jarrott, The Ohio State University, Reframing Aging for Student Community Engagement
- Suzanne Kunkel, Miami University of Ohio, Reframing Research Dissemination
- Carrie Andreoletti, Central Connecticut State University, Toward a Shared Vision: The Intersection of Reframing Aging and the Age-Friendly University
Nancy Morrow-Howell, Washington University in St. Louis professor and an advisory board member for the Reframing Aging Initiative (RAI), will serve as moderator. Laurie G Lindberg, RAI Project Manager, will provide an overview of the reframing aging research and principles.
There will be two breakout sessions to allow participants to practice applying well-framed language to their messaging.
