John Beilenson

SCP


John Beilenson is President of SCP (formerly Strategic Communications & Planning), a certified B Corporation and socially responsible communications and public relations firm, which he founded in 1987. SCP serves a wide range of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and public institutions throughout the United States. Beilenson and the SCP team develop communications, branding, messaging and story telling strategies that engage key stakeholders, build broader awareness, and promote positive social change. Beilenson regularly provides communications trainings around the country and is a certified Master Trainer in ReFraming Aging from The Frameworks Institute in Washington, DC. He has been an instructor in communications studies at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he taught "Public Speaking" and the "Rhetoric of Social Movements." He has also written 18 books for Peter Pauper Press, including The Future Me: Authoring the Second Half of Your Life, an interactive journal for people considering retirement and other transitions in later life. He has contributed to several national magazines and journals, including Social Policy and Sports Illustrated.

Beilenson has an AB in history and literature from Harvard University and an MA in communications studies from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He is currently a member (and former chair) of the board of directors of Surrey Services in Devon, PA and a board advisor to Generations Online.
